The New Islamabad International Airport was set to be completed and operational last year but was delayed for several reasons. It is now scheduled to be operational after the 20th of April, the official inauguration date of the airport.
According to the authorities, the major setback that delayed the launch of the airport was the road leading to the airport. But now the road leading to the airport from Kashmir Highway has finally been completed and ready to help people commute to the airport.
The Airport Main Link Road will be accompanied by Metro bus route which will connect the airport to Kashmir Highway through M1 Interchange. Although the road has been completed, the route for Metro Bus is still under construction. Once completed, both the routes will go side by side to the airport.
The New Islamabad International Airport is ready to serve the people of the twin cities. It now only awaits to be inaugurated. To make sure all operations are moved from the old airport to the new one, mock exercises are being held at the new airport that involves testing the software and all the facilities available at the airport.
