The Islamabad High Court has just handed the management of Islamabad Zoo to the ministry of Climate change temporarily.
The court said that the current zoo administration has failed to properly take care of the animals. The climate change secretary has also been advised to appoint a new person to handle the affairs of the zoo. The next hearing in the case will be heard on August 29.
The Islamabad Zoo animals were recently been found going under distress and harm from the negligence of the zoo management.
A petition was filed in the court requesting that the zoo hand over the Himalayan brown bear to Islamabad Wildlife Management Board for medical treatment.
One of the reasons provided by the zoo management was the unavailability of sufficient funds to take good care of the animals and treat them in time. The court noted this but also revealed that the administration refused to admit that they did not have the equipment or sufficient funds and facilities to take proper care of the animals that are kept in the zoo. Hence the management has been handed to climate change ministry for the time being.
